Apple is planning an iPhone Pro brand for this year's smartphone lineup

Apple could use the "Pro" moniker for the iPhone 11, Serial leaker CoinX published to Twitter on Saturday (Aug. 10) that Apple is planning an iPhone Pro brand for this year's smartphone lineup.

The person didn't identify sources for the information but has been right in the past with Apple's branding plans. Last year, CoinX correctly predicted Apple was planning to name the 2018 iPhone slate the iPhone XRiPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max.

As per the current state of the rumor mill, there should be a total of three iPhones this year - direct successors to last year's iPhone XSXS Max, and XR. Apple could then go with iPhone Pro (5.8-inch) and iPhone Pro (6.5-inch) for XS and XS Max successors.

As for the XR, it would end up as the regular iPhone (2019).

Then again, if the "R" is deemed important enough, the trio could just as easily be dubbed: iPhone 11R, iPhone 11, and iPhone 11 Pro.

Currently, it's believed that Apple will release three new models this year to replace last year's versions. CoinX didn't say where the Pro version might land in that lineup.

But it's likely that it would be the model that many assumed would be the iPhone 11 Max.

We are now fairly certain the new iPhones will be out on the market starting September 20. Not exactly surprising given the predictability of the time frame.
