How to customize subtitles and captions on Apple TV


With Apple TV, you can customize your subtitles and captions so they work for you. Here's how to turn them on, then change the font, size, color, and more, follow all the easy steps below:

Turn on Subtitles



  1. First, go to your Settings on your Apple TV.
  2. Click General.
  3. Click Accessibility.
  4. And then click Subtitles and Captioning.
  5. Here, turn on closed captions and subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.


You can also turn captions on or off while watching a show by either asking Siri on the Siri Remote or by swiping down on your remote.

Customize Subtitles


To customize your subtitles and captions:


  1. Go to Style.
  2. Then click Edit Styles
  3. Next, click New Style.
  4. You'll be able to save the new style you create as well as create multiple styles to return to later.
  5. To give your style a name, just fill in the Description box.


Change Appearance of Subtitles


Now let's change the appearance of the on-screen text:


  1. You can change the font by clicking Font.
  2. Then press the Menu button on your remote to go back when you're done.
  3. Choose a size. 
  4. And pick a color.


You can also customize the background the text appears on by changing the color and opacity.
