OPPO debuts Waterfall Display on its SmartPhone, eliminates side bezels with its waterfall screen

Oppo eliminates side bezels with its 'waterfall screen'

OPPO decides to put forward a prototype featuring a ‘Waterfall Display’, the idea was nearly materialized with the launch of Find X, but the waterfall display takes this design change to a whole new level. It also helps the device get nearer to that elusive 100 percent screen-to-body ratio mark.

New Waterfall Display Features an 88-Degree Curve That Makes the Screen Melt Towards Both Sides of the Prototype.

When viewed directly from the front, the bezels are practically invisible, which gives the device an even more premium look than today's curved-screen phones namely Oppo's very own Find X.

Oppo stopped short of sharing further details -- on specs, no dates, and, most importantly, no word on whether this would make phones more prone to drop damage. Also, perhaps to no surprise, a leaked glass piece suggests that Vivo is also working on similar tech, possibly for its upcoming NEX 3 flagship.

It'll be interesting to see which of the two sibling companies will be the first to bring this feature to a mass-produced device.

It’s likely that the waterfall display prototype isn’t going into production this year, and OPPO might have showcased it to reveal how far it wants to change how smartphones look.

Expect the first crop of handsets with a much curvier screen to start appearing from next year.
